Mercedes-Benz CLE: The New Star of the E-Class Family

Mercedes-Benz CLE

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the first images of its all-new CLE, a four-door coupe that will replace the CLS and join the E-Class family in 2024. The Mercedes-Benz CLE is a fantastic distillation of two models, combining the CLS's elegance and sportiness with the E-Class's efficiency and technology.

The Mercedes-Benz CLE is based on the same platform as the E-Class but features a more dynamic design with a sleeker roofline, a wider grille, and sharper LED headlights. The rear end is also more sculpted, with a distinctive spoiler and taillights that span across the trunk. The CLE has a drag coefficient of 0.22, making it one of the most aerodynamic cars in its segment.

The interior of the CLE is equally impressive, with a modern and luxurious cabin that offers plenty of space and comfort for four passengers. The dashboard is dominated by a 12.8-inch touchscreen that runs the latest MBUX infotainment system, which can be controlled by voice, touch, or gestures. The CLE also features a head-up display, a digital instrument cluster, and a Burmester sound system as standard.

The Mercedes-Benz CLE will be available with a range of powerful and efficient engines, including petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options. The petrol engines will range from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp to a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 362 horsepower, while the diesel engines will offer between 191 and 325 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid variants will combine a 2.0-liter petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering up to 375 horsepower and an electric range of up to 62 miles.

The Mercedes-Benz CLE will also benefit from the latest safety and driving assistance systems from Mercedes-Benz, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot assist, cross-traffic alert, and emergency braking. The CLE will also feature the E-Active Body Control suspension, which can adjust the damping and height of each wheel individually, enhancing comfort and handling.

Some other features of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE are:

  • It has speakers integrated into the front seats, which are part of the available Burmester 3D surround sound system that offers a true 360-degree audio experience.
  • It has a biometric and voice recognition system that can unlock personalized settings for each driver, such as seat height, steering wheel adjustment, head-up display placement, ambient lighting schemes, media settings, and more.
  • It has templates, routines, and themes that can be activated by voice commands or gestures, such as "Hey Mercedes, I'm stressed" or "Hey Mercedes, good morning." These can adjust various parameters such as music, lighting, massage functions, and navigation to suit the mood or situation.
  • It has a large grille with a shark nose effect, a long bonnet, a heavily curved roof with a curvaceous C-pillar treatment, and a steeply angled rear window that merges neatly into a sloping boot lid and a tapered rear end.

The CLE is expected to go on sale in Europe in the second half of 2023, followed by other markets in 2024. The pricing has not been announced yet, but it is likely to be similar to the current CLS, which starts at $70,300 in the US. The CLE will compete with other premium four-door coupes such as the Audi A7, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, and Porsche Panamera.

The Mercedes-Benz CLE is a bold and innovative addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup, offering a unique blend of style, performance, and efficiency. The CLE is also a testament to the brand's commitment to electrification, as it will offer several plug-in hybrid options that will reduce emissions and fuel consumption. The CLE is set to become the new star of the E-Class family and a desirable choice for customers who want a car that stands out from the crowd.
