The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: A Modern SUV with a Classic Heritage

Toyota has unveiled the all-new 2024 Land Cruiser, the latest generation of its iconic SUV that has been in production since 1951. The new Land Cruiser promises to deliver more performance, technology, and luxury than ever before while staying true to its heritage of off-road capability and reliability.

What’s New in the 2024 Land Cruiser?

The 2024 Land Cruiser is based on a new TNGA-F platform, which stands for Toyota New Global Architecture - Frame. This platform is designed to improve the rigidity, stability, and handling of the vehicle and reduce its weight and fuel consumption. The new Land Cruiser is about 440 pounds lighter than the previous model, has a lower center of gravity, and has a more aerodynamic shape.

The new Land Cruiser also features a new engine lineup, consisting of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque and a 3.3-liter turbodiesel V6 that generates 304 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission that offers smooth and responsive shifts. The new engines are more powerful and efficient than the old V8 engines and can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

The 2024 Land Cruiser is equipped with a new Multi-Terrain Select system, allowing the driver to choose from six modes depending on the road conditions: Auto, Sand, Mud, Rock, Dirt, and Deep Snow. The system automatically adjusts the engine, transmission, suspension, braking, and traction control settings to optimize the performance and safety of the vehicle. The new Land Cruiser also has a new E-KDSS system, which stands for Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. This system can independently control the front and rear stabilizer bars to enhance the articulation and grip of the wheels on uneven terrain.

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is loaded with advanced technology and safety features, such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 14-speaker JBL sound system, a wireless charging pad, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, a blind spot monitor, a rear cross-traffic alert, a lane departure alert, a pre-collision system, a pedestrian detection system, a radar cruise control, and a road sign assist. The new Land Cruiser also has a Multi-Terrain Monitor, which can display the underbody and surroundings of the vehicle on the screen, and a Multi-Terrain Assist, which can automatically control the acceleration, braking, and steering of the vehicle on challenging terrain.

The 2024 Land Cruiser offers more luxury and comfort than ever before, with a spacious and refined interior that can accommodate up to seven passengers. The new Land Cruiser has leather seats, wood trim, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and a power third-row seat. The new Land Cruiser also has a larger cargo space than the previous model, with up to 82.1 cubic feet of room with the second and third rows folded.

How Does the 2024 Land Cruiser Compare to Its Rivals?

The 2024 Land Cruiser is one of the few full-size SUVs that can combine luxury, performance, and off-road capability in one package. However, it also faces some tough competition from other vehicles in its segment, such as the Lexus LX, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the Land Rover Range Rover, and the Jeep Wrangler. Here is a comparison table that shows how the 2024 Land Cruiser stacks up against its rivals:

VehicleBase PriceEngineHorsepowerTorqueFuel EconomyTowing CapacityCargo Space
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser$85,000 (estimated)3.5-liter twin-turbo V6409 hp479 lb-ft18 mpg (estimated)7,700 lbs82.1 cu ft

2021 Jeep Wrangler$28,2953.6-liter V6285 hp260 lb-ft20 mpg3,500 lbs72.4 cu ft

As the table shows, the 2024 Land Cruiser has the best combination of power, torque, fuel economy, towing capacity, and cargo space among its rivals, while also having a competitive price. The 2024 Land Cruiser also has the advantage of having a longer history and a stronger reputation for off-road performance and reliability than its rivals.
