Norway is known for its love of electric vehicles, but the Ford F-150 Lightning has taken that passion to a new level. The all-electric pickup truck has received more than 15,000 reservations in the Nordic country, making it the most popular EV launch ever.
According to Ford, the F-150 Lightning has surpassed the previous record holder, the Tesla Model 3, which had about 12,000 reservations in Norway before its launch in 2019. The F-150 Lightning also beats the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which had about 7000 reservations in Norway before its debut.
Ford says that Norway is the first European market where the F-150 Lightning will be available, starting in mid-2024. The company attributes the strong demand to the truck’s combination of performance, capability, technology, and affordability. The Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $39,974 in the U.S., but Ford has not announced pricing for Norway yet.
The F-150 Lightning is Ford’s first all-electric pickup truck, and it promises to deliver up to 563 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque, as well as a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge. The truck also features a spacious frunk, a power tailgate, a 15.5-inch touchscreen, and over-the-air updates. The electric pickup truck can also act as a mobile generator, providing up to 9.6 kW of power for various uses.
The F-150 Lightning is part of Ford’s plan to invest $30 billion in electrification by 2025 and offer an electric version of every vehicle in its lineup by 2030. The company expects that EVs will account for more than half of its global sales by then.
Thanks to its generous incentives and infrastructure, Norway is a leading market for EV adoption. The country aims to phase out new gasoline and diesel vehicle sales by 2025, and EVs already make up more than 60 percent of its new-car market.
The F-150 Lightning is not the only electric pickup truck that will hit Norway’s roads shortly. Other competitors include the Tesla Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T, and the GMC Hummer EV. But for now, the Ford F-150 Lightning seems to have struck a chord with Norwegian buyers looking for a versatile and powerful EV that can handle any terrain.
